Stepping Away from Your Comfort Zone

We humans are creatures of habit and comfort. We find our groove and it’s quite easy to settle there, forgetting the bigger picture and how there might be something much more exciting around the corner.

I find that this is often the situation with candidates I speak to, but why be comfortable when you can have something that challenges you and enables you to progress your career?

When I discuss moving to a new company with my candidates, I usually get the following objections:

  • But I'm comfortable where I am!
  • What if it doesn’t work out?
  • What if I'm not happy after I move?
  • What if I don't get on with my colleagues?

The honest response is that we don’t know the answer to these questions but how will you ever know without taking the jump? You won't.

Changing job is like moving house. You don't know who the neighbours are, what the area will be like, or what feelings you’ll have towards the house once you’re in it - but you move in any way.

Look at your options. Take the risk. You’ll never know unless you try.
