The UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has recently announced changes to its registration criteria, stating that Nurses and Midwives who have trained outside of the EU will now be allowed to work in the UK immediately after they have qualified.

Previously, the NMC stated that Nurses and Midwives from outside of the EU would need 12 months' experience in their home country before applying to work in the UK.

All applicants from outside of the EU will still need to prove they can communicate effectively in English (IELTS or OET) and pass a test that shows they are safe to work as a nurse or midwife.

Thanks to the improved guidance and supporting materials provided by the NMC, overseas applicants will also be able to better prepare for meeting the necessary registration requirements.

This all comes as part of a wider plan to make applying for jobs in the UK a better experience for overseas Nurses.
