Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Surgical Nurse to work on an Orthopaedic ward in a large hospital in Crewe, Cheshire. The hospital has an excellent reputation, with around 4,500 members of staff and approximately 540 hospital beds in specialist wards such as Cardiac, Respiratory, Colorectal/GI, Elderly Care, Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT), General Surgery, Gynaecology, Cancer/Oncology, Maternity, Rheumatology, Trauma & Orthopaedics and Urology to name a few, plus a 14 bedded Intensive Care unit.

 

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its Be Safe BeEquiPPEd campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE.

 

The unit provides care for patients who have musculo-skeletal injuries and painful conditions of the joints, where just some of their services include:

 

  • Keyhole surgery for all major joints
  • Upper limb surgery
  • Joint replacement surgery
  • Complex hip and knee surgery including revision
  • Young adult hip service
  • Knee ligament reconstruction

 

 

Duties will include:

 

- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of patients with a variety of orthopaedic conditions and injuries

- Care of the pre-op and post-op patient   

- Liaising effectively with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure timely delivery of care 

- Recording and monitoring vital signs 

- Administration of medications 

- Wound care management

- Blood sugar management 

- Maintaining accurate records of care

 

 

Requirements:

 

  • Active NMC registration
  • A minimum 6 month’s surgical experience within a UK hospital
  • Right to work in the UK
  • UK references
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Time management and decision making skills
  • Basic IT Skills

- Within 90 minutes from London Euston, Leicester, Leamington Spa and Coventry
